Connection, Learning, and Growth for Emotionally Focused Therapists in the Midwest
Picture

Welcome
Hello STL EFT Community,
As we move into spring, there is a natural sense of movement and renewal. This season invites growth not only in the world around us, but also in our clinical work and professional development.
Within our community, we are especially focused this year on deepening our work with couples through Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT). Many therapists find themselves longing for a clearer map when working with conflict, disconnection, and attachment injuries in couple relationships. EFCT offers a powerful, research-based framework that helps us move beyond surface-level problem solving into meaningful emotional change.
This season, we are excited to highlight opportunities to deepen your EFCT work, stay connected in community, and continue growing as an EFT therapist.
With appreciation,
The St. Louis EFT Community Board of Directors

Featured: Deepening Our Work with Couples (EFCT in 2026)
Many of us know the feeling of sitting with a couple and sensing that something deeper is happening beneath the conflict, but not always having a clear path for how to reach it.

Therapists often encounter:
  • Conversations that escalate quickly or shut down just as fast
  • Recurring patterns that feel difficult to interrupt
  • Partners who long for connection but struggle to express it safely
EFCT provides a clear, structured map for guiding couples toward emotional safety, responsiveness, and secure connection.
  • Track and de-escalate negative cycles
  • Access and deepen primary emotional experience
  • Create corrective bonding interactions between partners

This year, our community is committed to supporting therapists in building confidence and depth in this work.

Recap of Advanced Attachment Injury Training with Teri Murphy during April 2026
We were honored to host Teri Murphy for an in-person Advanced EFCT Training and Consultation in St. Louis this spring. Approximately 30 clinicians, including community members, board members, and EFT supervisors, gathered to deepen their work with couples.
The training focused on strengthening therapists’ ability to navigate attachment injuries, facilitate Stage 2 change events, and remain grounded in the EFT model while working with complex couple dynamics. Through didactic teaching, clinical examples, and consultation, participants engaged in meaningful learning and skill development.
Beyond the clinical content, the training reflected the strength of our community, with a shared commitment to growth, connection, and excellence in EFT practice. We are grateful to Teri Murphy for her leadership and to all who participated in making this training a rich and engaging experience.

It offers a clear, practical framework for understanding attachment injury work in EFT, including therapist stance, safety, and the flow of a session.

Bylaw Amendment Vote
The STL EFT Board will vote on a proposed bylaw amendment during the board meeting on July 20, 2026, at 10:00 AM.
The proposed changes include:
  • Adding a dissolution clause to specify that, if STL EFT dissolves, remaining funds will be transferred to another EFT 501(c)(3) organization
  • Streamlining the process for future bylaw amendments by allowing shorter notice periods and removing the need for separate special elections
These proposed updates are intended to strengthen the sustainability and responsiveness of our organization.
Any additional amendments being proposed will be noted here by May 20, 2026.
