Emotionally focused INDIVIDUAL therapy (EFIT)
2025 RCT

A Randomized Controlled Trial of Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) for Depression and Anxiety

We are thrilled to share that the first-ever Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) of Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) has been published in 2025.
Key Findings:
  • EFIT significantly reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety.
  • Participants reported increased well-being and emotional regulation.
  • Gains were maintained at follow-up, confirming EFIT’s durability.
  • The study highlighted the power of attachment-based interventions for individuals as well as couples and families.
This is a major milestone: EFIT now has the same rigorous research support that has long established EFT with couples as the gold standard for relationship therapy. It validates what many of us experience clinically. When individuals feel safer and more connected inside themselves, they are more able to create deeper, lasting bonds with others.
